ASD Family Session @ The Hunterian Museum, Glasgow
July 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
About this Event
The Hunterian Museum is excited to announce its first ever Autism Friendly session. The afternoon will be dinosaur themed, with the following activities available:
• Dinosaur Tours
• Arts and Crafts activities
• Object handling
• Small World of Play (dino-world)
Participating families will have the museum to themselves as it is closed to the public. Numbers are limited to keep the museum quiet, with a range of different optional drop-in activities running throughout the session which are free of charge and suitable for young people aged 5-16 with parents and carers.
Activities will be run by Autism aware staff and volunteers. Our new sensory bags and visual resources will be available throughout your visit. Quiet spaces will be available and families are welcome to stay as long as they would like during the session. Whilst the session is free, booking is essential as spaces are limited.
The event has been organised by an MSc Museum Studies student who is working on a project to develop The Hunterian’s accessibility for visitors on the Autistic Spectrum and their families. The student will require attending families to participate in a pre-visit survey during registration, observation on the day of the event, which will be recorded anonymously and the completion of post-event evaluation forms.
The information collected from visiting families will be used to shape future Autism Friendly events held by The Hunterian and to contribute new research into ways that museums and cultural heritage institutions can make museums more welcoming for families with ASD.
