Quiet Hours @ The National Civil War Centre, Newark

June 9, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The National Civil War Centre now runs regular Quiet Hours! These sessions are designed for families and individuals on the autism spectrum, those with learning difficulties or a sensory communication syndrome. Visitors will be welcome to explore the museum freely, with no loud sound effects and there’ll be no one telling you off for making noise! You can get hands on with some of our objects with a special touch and feel table in the Tudor Hall and volunteers will be on hand; they won’t pester you but will be happy to answer any questions you might have and can give you extra information about our objects and exhibitions if you ask.

We’ve also recently introduced a sensory backpack available for visitors. If you or a member of your party might react aversely to sensory stimulants, just ask for the backpack on arrival. It’s full of things which are designed to make your visit more comfortable and enjoyable from protective ear muffs to a sensory ball, sensory floor plan, a soft toy to share your adventure with, and more.
